November 16, 2009 -- Microenterprise and Tax Credits Webinar, co-hosted by Microenterprise Funders Group and the EITC Funders Network

Did you know that in 2009, tax credits could deliver $18.5 billion to 14.9 million self-employed households?   Did you ever imagine that the process of preparing a Schedule C tax return could be the perfect tool for introducing entrepreneurs to financial planning and asset development?   Are you aware of the new Making Work Pay tax credit, which increases the potential financial benefit for the self-employed? The potential is there, but accessing it is not automatic. In fact, the self-employed face many barriers in tax preparation that wage earners do not.   Those who joined us for this webinar found useful background information on this issue, and were introduced to a set of strategies that could make a difference for millions. You can view the entire webinar--or the power point upon which it is based--by clicking here and scrolling down to the heading, "Introduction to Tax Prep Services for Microentrepreneurs, a Webinar for Funders."

October 26, 2009 -- EITC Platform Webinar. If you're interested in improving the quality of your EITC-related or free tax prep services, you should be interested in learning about the EITC Platform, an online system designed to help non-profits improve quality, receive training, and collaborate more cost-effectively. The EITC Platform is a tested system with compelling positive results. Speakers at this event included Irene Skricki of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Amy Brown of the Aspen Institute and Laura O'Keefe of Co-Opportunity. Click here for a recording of the entire webinar.

August 30, 2009 --Luncheon and Network Meeting in San Antonio. In these difficult economic times, strategies to help low-income people make ends meet are more important than ever.   Fortunately, some of the most effective strategies--the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit, the new Making Work Pay Credit, and others--have recently been expanded.  However, these policies will face tough scrutiny, and may even face reduction or elimination by Congress in the coming years. The EITC Funders Network held a briefing and luncheon for funders to learn more about how communities can help alleviate poverty and help low-income families build assets. Click here to review the meeting agenda, and look at presentations by Elizabeth Kneebone and Abby Levine. For the meeting notes, click here.

June 30, 2009 --Webinar on Developments in State EITCs. 23 states plus the District of Columbia now have a State EITC. With the states in economic turmoil, will we see increases in State EITCs or elimination of State EITCs?   We invite you to participate in our annual State EITC policy webinar.  This webinar provided information on the "state of" State EITC policies, the elements of a successful State EITC campaign, and potential developments in the field.
